Terms of business
Plain English, no small print games. These terms apply to design and build work by Ryan Kane, trading as RTK Studios, based in Newry, Northern Ireland. Your project scope document takes precedence if anything differs.
Quotes and scope
Every project starts with a written scope listing the pages, the fixed price and the timeline. That scope is the agreement. Work outside it is quoted separately in writing before it starts, so an invoice never grows without your say-so. Quotes hold for 30 days.
Deposit and payment
A 50% deposit confirms your slot in the schedule and is deducted from the final invoice. The balance is due on launch, or within 14 days of the site being ready to launch if the delay is on your side. Payment is by bank transfer, in pounds sterling.
What I need from you
Text, logos, images and any account access needed for the build. If material is outstanding for more than 30 days the project is paused and moved back in the schedule, and restarting may change the timeline.
Revisions
Revision rounds are included as stated in your package — two rounds on the smaller packages, three on the largest. A round means one consolidated set of changes. A change of direction after design sign-off, or extra rounds, are quoted before I start them.
Timings
Typical builds run one to three weeks once content is in. Dates given are honest estimates, not guarantees, and depend on your feedback arriving as agreed.
Ownership and handover
On final payment the finished site, its content and the domain and hosting accounts are registered in your name, with the logins handed to you. Until final payment is cleared the build remains mine. I keep the right to show the work in my portfolio unless you ask me not to.
Third-party costs
Your domain, hosting and any paid fonts, plugins or stock imagery are billed by those providers directly to you, not marked up by me. Expect roughly £100–£300 per year for domain and hosting; the full ongoing costs are listed on the services page.
Aftercare and support
Every build includes a short settling-in period after launch for fixes to work I delivered. Ongoing changes, content updates and maintenance are covered by the optional aftercare plans, cancellable with 30 days' notice.
Things I don't cover
Complex booking systems, online shops and customer account areas aren't offered at this stage. I also can't guarantee search rankings, traffic levels or sales — I build the site properly and set up the basics, but the results depend on your market.
Liability
I'll take reasonable care, but liability is limited to the fees paid for the project and excludes indirect losses such as lost profit. Nothing here limits liability where the law doesn't allow it.
Cancellation
You can stop a project at any time in writing. The deposit covers work already done and isn't refundable; anything completed beyond it is invoiced at the agreed rate. If I have to stop, you'll get the work completed to that point and a refund of anything paid for work not done.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of Northern Ireland. If something goes wrong, contact me first — most things are sorted with a phone call.
